Inspired by Google Maps, the system loads only the map sections currently in view, improving performance by minimizing memory usage. As the player zooms in, higher-resolution textures are loaded dynamically, while lower resolutions are used when viewing large areas from a distance.
The package includes a main map widget with features such as zoom controls, resizable map widgets (even during runtime), automatic centering on specific actors, and customizable visual elements. It also supports placing markers for actors like friends, enemies, the player, or objectives, with a built-in team system that allows different behaviors based on the relationship between the actor and the map user.
A dedicated camera actor can capture orthographic top-down views of the entire game world, splitting the scene into grid-based tiles at varying resolutions. These images can be saved to custom folders with configurable file names and resolutions, streamlining the map creation and asset preparation process.
The map system is highly flexible, allowing full customization of appearance using your own art and textures. Zoom buttons, compass, and other UI elements can be modified to match your game’s aesthetic. With numerous configuration options, developers can achieve precise control over map behavior, reducing the need to build similar features from scratch and accelerating development.
This resource pack is compatible with Unreal Engine 5.2 and later versions. It does not function reliably in Unreal Engine 4.26 or in the Viewport mode in versions 4.27 through 5.4, though it works properly when played in a new window or within built projects. For optimal performance and stability, it is recommended to use the new window mode or build projects.
