Character Creator - Modern 2D v2.0 is a comprehensive 2D character customization system built for top-down and isometric games in Unity. It enables developers and designers to create visually consistent, modular 2D characters without any drawing required.
Version 2.0 introduces several powerful new features, including the ability to export characters in HD (128x128 pixels) or 16-bit pixel style (64x64 pixels) for a retro look. Users can now add outlines using gradient or solid black effects, control animation frame rates (4–15 FPS), and equip characters with bikes and vehicles. New animations include RideIdle and RideRun for bike riding, with six bike types available: motorcycles, dirt bikes, scooters, and quads.
The system supports modular character assembly with 16+ heads, 14+ chests, 9+ legs, 3+ shoe types, 4+ backpacks, 3+ shields, and 26+ weapons. Each part supports individual color customization, gear hiding (ideal for NPCs or civilians), and full skin tone control. Characters can be exported as complete spritesheets or individual parts for layered gear design. Runtime gear switching allows real-time customization and previewing without re-rendering.
The tool includes 23+ animations covering combat, movement, idle states, stealth, feedback, utility, and mount actions. All animations are exported with alpha transparency and clean looping frames, using a consistent 15x8 grid. A one-click spritesheet generator supports optional overlays like muzzle flashes and shadows, with live previews of gear, color, weapon, and animation during setup.
Additional features include a Randomizer for quick prototyping, presets for instant outfit switching, tooltips for clarity, a simple UI tileset, and an unarmed/NPC mode. The system works seamlessly within Unity's editor and is optimized for use with Unity 6, requiring users to enable the classic Input Manager and TextMeshPro (TMP) for full functionality.
Spritesheets and characters created with this tool are licensed for use in personal games or interactive projects. Redistribution or resale of generated assets as standalone packs or bundles is not permitted. The tool is designed for development use only.
